PUBLIC NOTICE VALLEY MILLS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT WILL BE CONDUCTING A PUBLIC HEARING TO DISCUSS THE FINANCIAL INTEGRITY RATING SYSTEM OF TEXAS (F.I.R.S.T.) ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2024 AT 6:00 P.M. IN THE HIGH SCHOOL/JUNIOR HIGH CAFETERIA LOCATED AT #1 EAGLE WAY IN VALLEY MILLS, TEXAS.

As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, November 11th and Tuesday, November 12th.

VMISD is thrilled to announce that the Valley Mills High School band has achieved an outstanding milestone by securing 1st place in the Area D marching contest! This remarkable accomplishment not only showcases the hard work and dedication of our talented students and their directors but also advances them forward to compete at the state contest. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and wish them the best of luck as they represent our school and community on this prestigious stage. We would like to remind all parents/guardians that Valley Mills ISD will be closed on Monday, November 11th, for a student/staff holiday. Furthermore, in light of the band’s recent success, we are pleased to announce that Valley Mills ISD will also be closed on Tuesday, November 12th. We encourage everyone to celebrate this victory and support our band members as they prepare for their upcoming competition. As it stands currently, we have enough days allotted that taking this day will not result in our school district having to use a bad weather day to make the time up. However, if circumstances arise in the future that cause school closures, there is a possibility that this day will have to be made up.

Registration for new students to Valley Mills ISD is now open. Paper packets can be picked up and completed at both the elementary and JH/HS campuses. Additional documents required at the time of registration: birth certificate, immunization records, proof of residency, social security card, and enrolling parent/guardian's driver's license. Registration for returning VMISD students will open on Parent Portal after the summer PEIMS rollover on July 23. More information will be communicated as that date nears.

District and campus offices will be closing at 11:30AM today (Friday, May 31st).

Let me first thank all of our stakeholders for helping make this another amazing school year! I want to inform you, that the district will be closed on Friday, May 17th, and will reopen on Tuesday, May 21st. Due to current road conditions and taking into account the future potential forecast, Valley Mills ISD is canceling classes for tomorrow May 6th. VMISD administration will be out tomorrow checking roads and developing potential alternative routes if needed for Tuesday morning. We will continue to provide updates as we move forward into tomorrow. The safety of our students and staff is our first priority. Please stay safe and we will resume classes on May 7th. Valley Mills ISD will offer FREE (18 years and younger) breakfast and lunch meals this summer on the following days: May 20-24, May 28-31, June 3-6, June 10-13, June 17-20 and June 24-27. Breakfast will be served from 7:30AM to 8:00AM. Lunch will be served from 11:05AM-11:35AM. All meals will be provided at the Valley Mills Elementary cafeteria. Valley Mills ISD has decided to put up temporary barriers around our campuses in order to protect our school grounds. By erecting temporary barriers, Valley Mills ISD aims to control access to the school premises and prevent unauthorized individuals from entering the campus during the eclipse event. These barriers will be removed on Tuesday, April 9th, and we will reopen access of the school grounds to the public. Thank you for your cooperation during this historic event.

At last night's regular meeting, the board of trustees voted to amend the 2023-2024 school calendar to reflect April 8th as a student and staff holiday. There will be no school on April 8th. With the information provided from the City of Valley Mills and the Bosque County Sheriff's Department, and looking at the logistics of the upcoming eclipse event, the VMISD board of trustees unanimously approved the alteration of the current school calendar in order to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

We are pleased to announce that the repairs to the gas leak have been successfully completed. VMISD is happy to inform all students, parents, and staff members that school will reopen on Monday, January 29th as scheduled. All classes and activities will resume as usual, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to a safe and secure learning environment. *UPDATE* In order to allow the necessary time and resources for the gas company to address the issue and repair the leaks at the JH/HS campus, Valley Mills JH/HS will cancel classes for the day of Friday, January 26, 2024. The elementary campus will remain open as scheduled. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available. We thank you for your patience and flexibility in dealing with this situation. Breakfast and lunch will be available for all junior and high school students at the elementary campus. Breakfast will be served at 7:30am-8:00am and lunch will be available from 10:30am to 12:50pm. Students may enter at the cafeteria entrance or the front office. The status of the JV and varsity home basketball games scheduled for Friday evening versus Itasca will be announced once we are updated on the completion of repairs. In the event of an excess of too many missed school days, it may become necessary for Valley Mills JH/HS to schedule make-up days to ensure that students receive the required amount of instructional time. In the past two weeks, unforeseen events have occurred at the JH/HS campus that have disrupted the normal school day schedule. If a make-up day is needed, then March 18th and/or April 1st would possibly be used as a JH/HS make-up day. More information on these possibilities will be communicated in the near future. *Once again, school closure for tomorrow (Friday) is only for the JH/HS campus. Elementary will operate as normal.*

*ATTENTION* The JH girls' basketball games have been moved to the Hamilton High School campus tonight. Games will begin at 5:00pm and 6:00pm. The JH boys' will continue as scheduled (3 games beginning at 5:00pm) in Hamilton. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

*ATTENTION* In order to accommodate our students who are out of school today, Valley Mills Elementary will be providing lunch to any student in the district (JH/HS) that would like one from 12:50 pm to 1:20 pm today, January 25, 2024. Come to the cafeteria entrance at the elementary school at 12:50 pm if you would like a school lunch.

JH/HS Gas Leak Update: Unfortunately the repairs to the leak at the JH/HS campus were unable to be completed today. Since the work is ongoing, Valley Mills Junior High/High School campus will be closed tomorrow. The elementary campus will be open and will run on a normal schedule. We will continue to provide updates as new information regarding the progress of the situation becomes available. The decision on whether or not to make-up these lost instructional days will be communicated at a later date. The status of the JH basketball games scheduled for Thursday evening will be dependent on the outcome of the repairs and will be announced accordingly. Thank you for your patience and understanding. *Once again, there will be no school on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the JH/HS campus. Elementary will proceed as normal.*
